Really dint have interest to see this film but was too bored and it was long time since I watched a movie so ticked off this film as it was told that this is a thriller based on a famous novelist’s plot. So lets see how the film is.
The film opens with the twin murder of a priest and the wife of a leading TV channel’s CEO who was at the church to confess. The TV CEO requests the Police Commissioner to find the culprit, who immediately appoints Vetrimaaran (Arun Vijay). In his investigation, Vetrimaaran finds a hidden medical crime happening in the name of artificial insemination that a lot of pregnant women are continuously committing suicide. Who is the mastermind? Can Vetrimaaran crack down this complex case forms the rest.
Arivazhagan has handled the story well by not allowing commercial elements to take center stage. The plot touches on the social stigma related to childless women who fall easy prey to predators in the medical profession. What could have been worked on was the screenplay. A tad loosely etched, the message is diluted and spread out. Arun Vijay fits the role of a young officer to the T and has given one of his career best performances and he is excellent when he becomes a normal family man when interacting with his sister-in-law and family.
Thambi Ramiah, who comes as an assistant to the hero attracts us with his one liners, the scene where he smartly converts Arun Vijay’s emotional murder into self-defense is a scream. Mahima looks cute and brings reliability to her character. The villains Arvind Akash and Vamsi Krishna fit the bills and after a long time, Abhinaya scores in a well-written role. Vishal Chandrasekhar has scored well in the songs and his BGM too is worth a mention.
Bhaskaran’s stylish visuals is a big strength to the film, especially the action sequences was splendid! Editor Bhuvan Srinivasan has complemented him with seamless cuts. Incidentally, the 23 in the title apart from the film being Arun’s 23rd venture, also has a connect to the film’s plot. Arivazhagan known for his superb making style has placed much emphasis on the script and the technical crew, and it shows in the output. Overall, can be watched mainly for its plot..!! 🙂
