Sairat (MARATHI)

I have never thought that I will be seeing a Marathi film in my lifetime. But due to lack of good and sensible films in my regional language I was rather interested to see this movie as it was gaining popularity even in my city. So amidst the hot bookings we managed to get tickets for the film and watched it among the full house audience. Lets see what the film offers us.

Aarchi (Rinku Rajguru), a rich upper class girl falls for her classmate Parshya (Aakash Thosar), a poor but smart boy from the lower social family. The magic happens, and they start seeing each other secretly at first, but they get bold with passing time. The problem is that Aarchi is not just from the upper class, her father is a powerful politician, and her brother Prince is following in on his footsteps. The entire affair is a recipe for trouble, and as expected, trouble arrives. With the help of Parshya’s friends, they decide to make a run for it. What happens to them after this forms the rest.

The film has its nail-biting sequences as well, when the couple elopes, struggles, gets caught and punished. Just when you think it’s over, the film surprises you with the cliff-hanger moment. This movie may remind you of ‘Kadhal‘, a Tamil movie, and yet there’s a whiff of freshness in this. Though the film gives a different feel in first half, the second half moves slowly and the length of 170 mins for the film gives a boring feeling towards the end till the twist happens. Rinku Rajguru as Archana @ Aarchi is outstanding in her debut performance.

The brilliant music from Ajay-Atul, camera work, and a graph that encompasses happiness and sadness, only add to the quality. Nagraj Manjule is a master at bringing out the irony in situations and that is on ample display in the movie. He proves he can also make a deeply touching mainstream romantic film which is loud and clear. Overall it is an epic love story told in a highly affecting manner, filled with solid performances, great songs and an assured hand in direction. Go for it..!! 🙂
